A bound ledger containing nominal rolls of the 2nd Battalion "Queen's Own Rifles of Canada" listed by Company and by year (some with multiple rolls in one year). Detailed information includeds at minimum name and rank. Some years include date of enrolment and discharge, age, marital status, residence street address. Regimental numbers are NOT included.
The period covered is from March 1866 to the Annual 1881/1882 roll. Of note are March 1866 rolls taken 3 months before the June 2, 1866 Battle of Ridgeway; rolls taken shortly after the battle on June 7, 1866; and a further roll taken in August 1866 while the regiment was camped on active service at Thorold, Ontario.
The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada was formed in Toronto, Ontario on April 26, 1860 when a six existing militia companies from Toronto, Barrie and Whitby were formed into a battalion, first known as the "Second Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles of Canada". (The First Battalion was in Montreal and would become the Victoria Rifles.)
